Sun worshippers are going to be in for the time of their life when their Royal Caribbean ship drops anchor in the Caribbean Sea just off Coco Cay. Little Stirrup Cay as it was known before Royal Caribbean took it over and renamed it Coco Cay is located just 50 miles north of Nassau, and is the proverbial island in the sun!
When you wake up in the morning, peep out of your stateroom and you will see the clear aquamarine waters around beckon. After a quick breakfast, head for the tender that will take you across to the little island, and get ready for a relaxed day spent soaking up the sun.
The fun starts as soon as you step onto the island. A reggae band will greet you and the music will instantly get you into a mood of having fun. Head towards the beach and find yourselves a sun-bed in a shady spot (or one in the sun, if you so prefer). If you want a little seclusion and privacy, head towards Barefoot beach just a short walk away from the central area, otherwise get some suntan lotion on yourself and settle down for a lazy day of snorkeling, swimming or snoozing.
There’s plenty to do here: the kids will have a great time paddling in the clear waters, sliding down a water slide or having fun splashing about at the Caylana Aqua Park, the adventure enthusiast can snorkel, kayak, take a nature walk or parasail. Take a glass bottom boat ride and get a wonderful view of the beautiful marine life and corals underwater. Shopaholics will find a small straw market selling tee shirts, floppy hats, sarongs and other bric-a-brac to take home.
When hunger pangs strike, a BBQ lunch awaits you (it’s free!) at the central area and you can enjoy a picnic lunch in the shade. Drinks flow, whether alcohol based or non alcoholic, so take your pick. It promises to be a fun, relaxed day at Coco Cay, and the day at spent here promises to be the best part of your cruise to the Bahamas for sure!
