Royal Caribbean International was officially recognized as being the first official autism-friendly cruise line. The cruise line has been working relentlessly to introduce and incorporate programs and amenities that cater to holiday makers who are suffering from autism.
Working with a leading travel organization Autism on the Seas, Royal Caribbean has taken steps to see that they are autism friendly. For instance they have developed a story book like picture book that lists and depicts what one can expect from a cruise. This story book approach helps the child with autism to comprehend what to expect on the cruise.
There are youth programs, daycare facilities and trained personnel, as also meals that are gluten-free or dairy-free as per the need. Special movie screenings with brighter lights, and there is also more tolerance for walking around and talking whilst watching a film. They are also considering making embarkation and disembarkation processes less stressful for families travelling with autism afflicted children.
