The world’s most awaited ship Royal Caribbean’s Quantum of the Seas today rolled out of her building at the Meyer Werft Shipyard in Papenburg, Germany with a 30-foot high polar bear in magenta colour adorning her top deck. This is a piece of sculpture has been created by American artist Lawrence Argent and will be part of a multi million dollars collection of art called “What Makes Life Worth Living” that is being specially curated for Quantum of the Seas.
The bear sculpture is named “From Afar” and is made up of 1,340 stainless steel triangles, and weighs approximately 8 tons. This piece of sculpture is in keeping with the ship’s art theme and showcases the subtle and immeasurable qualities of what makes life worth living, such as peace, love, joy, gratitude and passion, which is what Quantum’s art pieces are meant to bring to mind.

Royal Caribbean’s fleet of 21 ships are filled with beautiful artistic pieces and the art collection across the ships have been curated by International Corporate Art (ICArt). The art team scours the world for new inspiring artists, as also well known ones, who create interesting works that can be showcased on the cruise line’s ships. This process of searching for artistes and their works is a process that generally takes two to three years.
The Quantum of the Seas will make her debut in November 2014, and will have many firsts at sea to her name – the RipCord by Ifly, the North Star as the SeaPlex amongst them. Royal Caribbean International has a 45 year old legacy of innovations and firsts at sea, and the quantum of the Seas will do them proud indeed.
